Adventures in the Rain

I feel like we're back living in the Fraser Valley. It's been raining here for what feels like an eternity. Really, it's probably only been a couple of weeks, but still, that is a long time!! I am ready for the sunshine to break through them clouds and bring some life and energy back into these damp bones!! last night we started to go a little stir-crazy and I decided that if you can't beat the rain, you might as well join it! So we got our boots on, grabbed the rain coat, and jumped into the truck to head down to the river. Ady was super excited to be getting out. This little girls thrives off of social settings! She needs to get out and be active and just have a little bit more freedom than she sometimes gets in the house. And last night was definitely a night in which we all needed to step out....

The river is quite high so we were unable to get very far, but it didn't matter this time; we just needed a spot to get out. We climbed out of the truck, and while Ady was quite apprehensive, she was willing to get help, especially from "Unc" (one of her absolute favourite people!). We got down to inspect the rocks, and to pick them up and throw them as far as we possibly could. And it was delightful. And therapeutic.
Choosing which rock to throw requires a thoughtful choice: is lighter easier? heavier will make a bigger splash? do I want to try and skip the rock? throw it as far as possible? are those colours nicer than those ones?

Dirty hands! Ach! Mom!  Playing in the water with daddy is always fun!

While, it is still raining and dreary today, at least we got out and joined the rain yesterday... and while we still wish it would disappear, we were at least reminded that playing in the rain can actually be kinda fun.

  1. Super fun! There's a great quote that goes something like: "Anyone who thinks sunshine is pure happiness has never danced in the rain".
